How to Save a Received Digital Business Card to Your Smartphone Contacts
Share-Me |

Simply opening a digital business card page does not necessarily mean it has been added to your smartphone contacts. To ensure you can search for it by name later, it is important to check the card's details, complete the saving process, and then verify it in your contacts app.
This article is intended for anyone who has received a digital business card and explains the steps for saving it from the screen and when you receive a VCF file. These are general verification steps based on official guidance from Share-Me, Apple, and Google. They are not based on testing on actual devices or universal screen procedures across all services, as button locations and displays vary depending on the OS, app, and business card service.
Confirm the person and storage location before saving
First, check that the name and company on the business card match the person you exchanged cards with. Even if you receive a URL later via email or another method, do not register information received from an unknown sender without checking it. If you are unsure of the details, contact the person using the contact method you agreed upon when exchanging cards.
Next, decide where to save the business contact. If your personal and work accounts are on the same device, it is important not to overlook the storage location selection. On a company-issued device, use the contacts app or account designated by your company, and do not bypass restrictions by changing management settings.
- Is it the person's name and company?
- Does it include the phone number or email address you will use in the future?
- Have you already registered this person in your contacts?
- Is it an account suitable for saving as a work contact?
If there is an existing contact, do not immediately create a new entry or overwrite it; instead, compare the information to see why it differs. This prevents you from leaving outdated department information or old phone numbers as the latest information without checking.
Choose a saving method based on the screen displayed
Some digital business cards proceed to a contact registration screen, while others provide contact data as a file. Check whether the service provides a saving feature and follow the displayed instructions. The following options are for verification purposes and do not mean that all services use the same mechanism.
| Display / How to Receive | How to Proceed | How to Verify Completion |
|---|---|---|
| A contact registration screen opens | Confirm the name and other details, then complete the add and save operations on the screen | Search for the person in your contacts app |
| You receive a .vcf file | Open it in a compatible app or import it | Check not only that you have obtained the file, but also that it has been added to your contacts |
| Only the profile page opens | Check the service's saving instructions. If there are none, contact the person to confirm their contact details | Check whether you have confused bookmarking with adding a contact |
VCF is one of the file formats used to handle contact data and is also known as vCard. It is different from saving a screenshot or URL of the profile. Simply saving an image may not allow you to search for the name in your contacts app and proceed to call or email.
Confirmations when saving on an iPhone
Share-Me's official guide explains that you can save received electronic business cards to your smartphone contacts and reminds you not to forget the "Create New Contact" operation on an iPhone. Do not simply display the details and close it; complete the registration first, then verify it in your contacts app.Share-Me User Guide
If you receive a VCF separately via email or message, Apple's official guide explains how to tap and load the .vcf attachment. This explanation applies to attachments and does not guarantee that all save buttons on web pages will work in the same order.Apple: Import Contacts on iPhone
- Confirm that the name and contact information you are trying to save belong to the person.
- Check the required fields on the displayed registration screen and complete the add and save operations all the way through.
- Reopen the contacts app, search for the name, and compare the phone number and email address.
If there are multiple entries with the same name, also check the company name and contact details. Avoid repeatedly repeating the add operation just because you cannot find the entry. First, check whether the displayed account or list is correct.
When you receive a VCF on Android
On Android, if a registration screen opens, follow the on-screen instructions to save it. When you receive a VCF file and import it into the Google Contacts app, Google's official help provides the following method:
- Open the Google Contacts app.
- Go to "Organize" and then "Import from file".
- If you have multiple accounts, select the account where you want to save it.
- Select the VCF file to import.

This procedure is intended for the Google Contacts app. Since the field names and import methods may differ in manufacturer-specific contacts apps, please check the official instructions for that app. This does not guarantee that a VCF will always be downloaded by individual business card services, including Share-Me.
If you cannot find the file, check your browser's download history or other sources to confirm that the download has completed. If there are multiple files with the same name, compare the date and time received and the contents to avoid importing unrelated contact files together.
Use this checklist to finalize after saving
Even if the screen displays "Complete," check that the contact details are as intended. There is no need to actually make a call or send a confirmation email without permission. First, check the displayed information and the recipient that is selected when you perform the operation.
| Verification Item | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Can you search for it? | Search for the person's name in your contacts app and confirm that the intended information is displayed |
| Is the storage location correct? | It is in the account or list you use for work |
| Are the details correct? | Compare the name, company name, phone number, and email with the original business card |
| Are there duplicates? | Check whether the same person is registered multiple times |
| Can you return to the original information? | If necessary, also keep a separate record of the profile URL |
If any information is missing, only correct what you can verify from the person's business card. Do not fill in department names or email addresses based on guesswork. If you want to keep a record of the conversation as well, refer to the Conversation Note Template After Exchanging Business Cards and leave the necessary information in a recording location approved by your company.
Updates after saving may not be automatic
Even if the content of the profile page changes, the contact saved to your smartphone may not be updated automatically. Unless automatic updates are clearly stated, treat the information as it was when you received it, and compare and update it if you receive notice of a transfer or phone number change. Keeping the URL will be useful when you want to re-verify the information the person has made public.
If you cannot open the profile itself, the problem occurred before the saving operation. If it does not respond to NFC, check the Troubleshooting Steps When an NFC Business Card Does Not Respond and address the handover and contact saving separately.
